Dr. Shelly Barnes became the owner in 2013 to continue a 28-year tradition of high quality veterinary care. She is a native of Knoxville, Tennessee, but is happy to now call Murfreesboro home. She received a Bachelor of Arts degree in Biology at Agnes Scott College in Atlanta, Georgia. After college, she returned to Knoxville where she received her Doctor of Veterinary Medicine degree at the University of Tennessee. Since graduation, she has worked in private practice in Charlotte, North Carolina. She also joined a humane society in Hickory, North Carolina providing care for all of the adoptable pets. She was presented with amazing opportunities to provide care for pets so that they would be healthy and ready for their forever home. Although the humane society was a very rewarding environment, she missed the daily interactions with pets alongside their owners. Her professional interests include dermatology, soft tissue surgery, and preventative care. When she's not in the office, she enjoys hiking, soap making, and gardening. She also enjoys attending to her pet chickens, sheep, and goats.

Amber has been with South Church Animal Hospital since September 2009 and loves being a part of the medical and surgical part of our clinic. She is very knowledgable about our inventory of Hill's Prescription Diet that many of our patients are kept on. She also is the main lab technician and makes sure all our lab equipment is well maintained. Amber has owned many animals including dogs, cats, fish, and snakes making her advice very valuable to any pet parent.
